At the moment, Tom Brady is hoping that the NFL slaps teammate Rob Gronkowski with a huge fine. Better that than a possible suspension after a late hit on Bills corner Tre’Davious White in the game on Sunday.
The tight end could face one, the other, or both after the vicious hit during the fourth quarter of the Patriots’ 23-3 win. The hit came after a play where White intercepted Brady was already blown dead. Gronkowski smashed down onto the back of White’s head. The hit actually put White in concussion protocol.
In his weekly appearance on WEEI’s Kirk and Calahan, Brady responded to whether he thinks Gronk will be suspended for the hit.
“I hope not. I certainly hope not. Yeah, I hope not.”
Breaking down the hit just a little, the quarterback admitted, “Obviously, it was unnecessary roughness. He got the penalty for it.”
He continued: “It’s an emotional game. These are spur of the moment things. They just happen. We deal with the penalties. They got some penalties on the play too and you’d always love to keep your cool all the time, but when you’re in a sport when you are trying to run, block and hit, tackle, and be physical and aggressive, that is why people tune in. I think if it was a pillow fight I don’t think people would tune in to watch.”
