New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. recently spoke out critically of how he’s being treated for some of his on-field anger problems. The player compared himself to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, saying that there’s a double standard.
Will Cain of ESPN’s First Take called disagreed, saying Beckham Jr. is delusional:
“Lemme look up the definition of delusional. Here it is: a firmly held belief despite being contradicted by reality and any rational argument. I think that might describe Odell pretty dang perfectly. Let me get this straight Odell: you and Tom are exactly the same? Somehow, at the end of that, it’s just a double standard. You know what? It is a double standard. The standard works like this: Tom Brady has five Super Bowl trophies. Odell Beckham proposed to a kicking net. Tom Brady has four Super Bowl MVPs. Odell Beckham kicked a kicking net. Odell Beckham Jr. has been ejected and kicked out of games. He is a passionate individual. That is true. Tom is a passionate individual. That is true. The comparisons end there.”
The evidence is pretty strong. Beckham has yet to help his team even win a playoff game. It’s not too much of a stretch to imagine that his emotional antics are actually hurting his team.
