Rookie Takkarist McKinley is going to be thrown into the fire in Vic Beasley’s absence. McKinley has played well already during his first two games with the Falcons. He also has the third-most pressures among all rookie edge defenders.
McKinley has a special blend of speed and power which gives him more to work with and gives him the potential to be special. The pass rush is going to take a hit with Beasley’s injury, and that is to be expected when any team loses their leading sack leader. Beasley also led the league in sacks last season, so his impact is even bigger.
The Falcons plan on letting McKinley play on both sides of the line to get the most out of his skill set. Brooks Reed and Adrian Clayborn also stand to get a bump in playing time with Beasley’s injury.
These types of opportunities can make a players career. While McKinley certainly didn’t wish this upon Beasley, he is going to make the best of the opportunity he has been given. He will have a chance to get his first sack of the season this Sunday against Detriot.
