It’s not irrational to fear that Alabama has wasted a very good season with one game of very poor play. The loss to Auburn will haunt Alabama for months to come if the Tide is shut out of the playoffs at the end of the week.
Having to sit at home, not participating in the SEC championship game is painful, but the anxious anticipation of the College Football Playoff committee’s final decision is even more so.
It’s all going to come down to what happens in the championship games.
The Pac-12 championship is essentially irrelevant, neither USC nor Stanford is much of a threat to jump into the playoff.
The winners of the two others are expected to directly punch their ticket. In the ACC, it’s likely that whoever comes out on top between Clemson and Miami will be headed to the playoffs. The same can likely be said for the SEC championship between Georgia and Auburn.
It would be helpful for Bama if Auburn beat down the Bulldogs again, making the loss to the Tigers on the road even more respectable.
