Bill Russell Ruined the NBA Forever

Bill Russell won a lot of championships. 11 rings in 13 years during the 1950s and 1960s. His team was stacked, of course, but many teams were at that time (there were only 8 in the league). By all accounts, Bill Russell was an incredible teammate, player, winner, and even coach. But he ruined the NBA forever.
While Bill Russell and the Boston Celtics were busy winning titles, you know who wasn’t busy winning? Wilt Chamberlain. They met a few times, and Russell kept coming out on top. Someone else wasn’t busy winning though at the same time – Jerry West (keep Jerry in mind)…
Next, let’s jump forward.
Kevin Durant left the Oklahoma City Thunder to join the then 73-win Golden State Warriors (who just came back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat said Thunder). There was a confluence of events that led to Durant joining the Warriors. These events include:
- Harrison Barnes turning down an extension early last season to become a free agent
- Klay Thompson having an incredible Game 6 verse the Thunder last year
- The Warriors winning the series verse the Thunder
