Jake Arrieta and Wade Davis have both declined the Chicago Cubs’ qualifying offers of $17.4 million. Because both players declined, the Cubs are now guaranteed compensation picks in the upcoming 2018 draft if Arrieta and Davis sign with a different team.

According to ESPN, none of the nine players in the MLB who were offered the same qualifying offers as Arrieta and Davis accepted the offers.

Arrieta has played with the Cubs since the 2014 season, and before that played with the Baltimore Orioles. Wade Davis started playing in the MLB with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2004. In 2013 he switched to the and has since played with Kansas City Royals before playing with the Chicago Cubs this year. Whether or not either player will choose to remain with the Cubs remains to be seen.
