The Cincinnati Bengals took a gamble when they drafted Joe Mixon in the second round, with the 48th overall pick. Mixon will try to redeem himself from an incident of domestic violence.
However, his talent is not an issue. He was one of the best running backs in college football last season. He had 1,274 yards and ten touchdowns.
Will Mixon get a chance to start for the Bengals next season?
There are definite backfield issues in Cincinnati. Andrew Whitworth and Kevin Zeitler, who were key pieces of the offensive line last year, left during the offseason.
Giovani Bernard, the starting running back going into the 2016 season, suffered a season-ending ACL tear. Bernard has made a quick recovery, but it remains to be seen if he will survive the regular season.
Despite Mixon’s personal history and the fact that he is a rookie, the Bengals selected him with every intention to involve him in their offense. Cincinnati needs to revive its running game in order to become relevant in the AFC North again.
